Deerfield Counseling is the private practice of Charles D. Thomas. Charles is a Limited Licensed Psychologist, Licensed Professional Counselor, Board Certified Counselor and a Certified Advanced Alcohol and Drug Counselor. Charles has been a Limited Licensed Psychologist in the state of Michigan for over 20 years. Michigan law, however, requires that Limited Licensed Psychologists practice under the supervision of a Licensed Psychologist regardless of their level of experience. Charles receives supervision from Ronald Crafton, Ed.D. for his psychology license.
During his career, Charles has provided psychotherapy for children, adults, and families in a variety of environments including college, clinic and hospital settings. He has also worked as a mental health program administrator. Charles specializes in working with men, couples, and people struggling with grief or trauma. He has speciality training in EMDR, Emotionally Focused Therapy, Clinical Hypnosis and Gottman Method Couples Therapy.
In his clinical work, Charles has been greatly influenced by the client centered therapy of Carl Rogers, the insights and no nonsense approach of cognitive therapist Albert Ellis as well as the existential therapist, Irvin Yalom. As an eclectic therapist, Charles draws from the work of these seminal figures in psychotherapy as well as others to craft a unique approach that fits each of his clients.
In addition to being a therapist, Charles is also a freelance writer. If you are interested, you can read some of the articles he’s written on mental health topics here.
