Here’s a mesage from Dylan:
Everyday life comes with an endless number of stressors and barriers that can often seem inescapable. These things often only seem to get worse the longer we go without addressing them. In a world that moves a mile a minute, we can often find ourselves burnt out and feeling empty. These environments lead us to turn towards coping mechanisms that prevent growth and keep us stuck in a loop of feeling helpless. Skills based work has been what I find to be an effective method to improving this generalized emotional malaise and can help transition someone from feeling like they are surviving, to someone that is living.
People often consider self-care to be meditating on a mountain over the sounds of a soft wind chime or doing a full skin care routine, when in reality, self-care looks different for everyone, and everyone has different needs that self-care can fulfill. I like working with individuals so that they can develop the skills needed to find their own “emotional gas station” and can feel confident and comfortable being able to refuel themselves. I also enjoy helping people understand the “why” behind behaviors that are unhelpful in them reaching their goals in order to empower them to make sustainable changes through outlets and interests they already enjoy. Often times, the answer to our solutions, are right in front of us just waiting to be seen from a new angle.
My lived experience as a member of the LGBTQIA+ community and a biracial American has provided me with insight into many of the external stressors placed on many in my communities. I have an interest in helping others who have experienced the distress that may be caused from facing systemic and direct oppression and/or lack of acceptance from natural supports through skills-based work.
