Marissa Cooney, LMSW

Marissa Cooney is a licensed clinical social worker who completed her graduate degree in social work at Western Michigan University. Marissa specializes in providing evidence-based treatments to adults experiencing a range of problems, including anxiety, depression, relationship struggles and emerging adulthood issues. 


Marissa is trained in providing Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Mindfulness Skills, and has completed Level 1 Training in Gottman Method Couples Therapy. She has over 8 years of professional experience including providing services in both hospital and outpatient settings.  While she provides both in person and virtual services, Marissa is an experienced telehealth therapist, having worked with an innovative behavioral health start-up company as a blended therapist.

With a style that is warm, empathic and includes a healthy sense of humor, Marissa takes a collaborative, strengths-based approach to therapy. She works with clients to identify their strengths and uses them to work through current concerns.  She understands the power of therapy to transform lives and encourages people to make changes that leads them to a more meaningful life.

When she isn’t working, Marissa enjoys attending to her over 75 houseplants and creating unique ways to keep them safe from her two Shiba Inus.  She also enjoys cross-stitching and the beach.

Marissa currently accepts Medicare, Medicaid (McLaren, Meridian and Blue Cross Complete HMO’s) and Priority Health (HMO, PPO, Medicare and Medicaid) insurance. Other plan participation is expected in the coming months.
